The walkup from the cement courtyard to the front of the house is all set. Well, we’re holding off on the gap filler until next spring but the pavers are all in place. More of the hardscape plan is coming together, and I am really liking the result. It’s modern and industrial without being overly so (in my opinion anyway – I’m sure some will say it’s “too much gray”). The gray also acts as a transition from the white of the house to the black of the asphalt.
The walkup is mostly pavers but we also used concrete as an element. The concrete ties into the courtyard and landscape walls, and also serves to hide the edges of the pavers from showing on the steps. The pavers are Unilock Series 3000 in mineral ice gray and don’t have finished edges. I like how the gray of the pavers is just slightly different than the concrete. It’s a nice monochromatic effect. We were also torn on a grid pattern vs. the running bond pattern, but opted for the running bond pattern because a grid would have never ended up quite a precise as my anal nature would have wanted. And it would have shifted over time – probably driving me crazy.
