The stairs were installed this week! Well, the stringer and treads in any case. Well, okay, the treads were removed to be finished. But we got to see them in place for a day. It’s awesome because the staircase was an area that we really splurged – both in costs and in style. It’s definitely one of the more industrial and contemporary interior elements in the house.
It was also a big risk for us because we didn’t quite know how it’d turn out. We’ve seen many pictures of this type of staircase on Houzz, but we’ve never actually known anyone with them. We did see something similar at one of our architect’s houses and it was amazing. But that whole house was amazing and well beyond the scope of our house. So we were a bit nervous about how it’d turn out.
Now that it’s in (or at least the parts that are in), we can safely say that it looks and feels amazing. The black powder coated steel stands out against the white of the interior and the natural finish of the white oak floors. The floating design allow a view right through the house. The treads are large scale and dramatic. And the functionality is great. It’s solid and feels quite spacious. We can’t wait for the rails to be completed and installed!
